The Help

Have you seen the movie or read the book?

Did you like it?

I am one of those who prefer to read the book first - then go see the movie.
I knew the minute I read the back cover, I just had to buy it.
NPR.org - said "This could be one of the most important pieces of fiction since
To Kill a Mockingbird"
To Kill a Mockingbird is my very favorite movie - ever!
So, you see, I just had to buy it.

And, as you can see.....

I'm only on chapter 10, so please don't spoil it for me and give away the ending.

Can you believe this is Kathryn Stockett's first novel and it's a #1 New York Times bestseller and has been made into a movie?
Very impressive.

Classroom decor

After making Mrs. Peele's Busy Bee tote, I decided to embroider a few things for her classroom to match.

~ Mrs. Peele's Busy Bee wall clock ~

I purchased a 9" diameter wall clock from Wal-Mart, took it apart and replaced the face with a more customized one.
These clocks are very easy to take apart and replace the face.
If you don't embroider, you could replace it with a favorite photo, a child's drawing or maybe a piece of fabric to match your decor.

The "Busy Bees"

Before Oakleigh (my beautiful grandbaby) was born, her mom, Danise, was a teacher.
We are so proud - a school teacher!
With all the talk of school starting this week, it reminded me of her first year of teaching.
Danise chose a theme of "The Busy Bees" for her classroom.
After finding out her theme, I got to work making a few things for her and her classroom.

Here was my first project:
A tote with 4 outside pockets.

Danise is fortunate to be able to stay home with Oakleigh
and chooses to home school her.
So far she is doing great!
Oakleigh is now three years old and besides the obvious - recite the alphabet, count and know all her colors...
She can already spell and write her first and last name!

Besides being a great mommy to Oakleigh, Danise has decided to start her own business as an Arbonne consultant. Being an Arbonne consultant she can choose her own hours and still be able to spend quality time with Oakleigh.

Curious and want to find out more?

What? you say - shameless plug?
Nope, just a proud mom!
Good luck Danise on your new adventure.

Isn't THIS cool.........

Okay, maybe I am behind the times, but this is the first one of these I have ever seen.

It's an electric car charging station.
There were three in this parking lot.

Pretty cool, huh?

~ Father knows best ~

There hasn't been much sewing going on here lately so I thought I would share something my father taught me. I have seen a few tutorials on folding sheets in the past, but have not seen "his way" so I thought I would share.

Here goes... step by step.
(Please excuse the bad photography and the wrinkled sheets)

First fold your fitted sheet in half - from top to bottom.

Fold over again.
Depending on the size sheet - you may want to fold a third time.

Next - the fitted sheet...
Fold in half tucking the corners inside.

It should now look like this.

Now start folding the fitted sheet down from top to bottom.

Fold again...

...and again and lay it on top of your flat sheet.

Fold your pillowcase in half long ways.

Now lay your pillowcase on top of the fitted sheet.

Next - start from one end and fold over.

Keep folding...

again...

...and again until you end up like this.

Flip it over...

and stack neatly in the linen closet.

Need a gift idea for a coffee lover?

Why not make them a tote and include a little gift card to their
 favorite coffee shop?

Front

Don't you just love this coffee fabric?

Back

Matching key fob.

I think totes make great gifts.

After all....
You can never have too many totes.

~ Peanut butter frosting ~

I had a house full of guests this weekend.
My niece, her friend, and my two nephews came to visit for the weekend so I decided to
whip up a little snack - a pan of brownies with peanut butter frosting.
Unfortunately, I forgot to get a quick photo before they gobbled them all up, but I thought I would share this yummy Peanut Butter Frosting recipe anyway.

Here's all it takes...
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup peanut butter
2 cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix all ingredients together using hand mixer until smooth and creamy.

Make sure your brownies are completely cooled before frosting.

See how easy that was?
Just a minute of your time and a few ingredients you probably already have on hand.

I hope you'll try it - it's really delicious.

Mismatched silverware

~ Another gift from Debbie ~

I thought this was THE coolest gift - a set of mismatched silverware.
I knew the minute she gave it to me; I had to find a unique way to display it.

Here's what I came up with...

What cha think?
