Blogiversary giveaway - day eight

The Wonder Wallet by

This little wallet is slightly larger than a credit card, loaded with four pockets for all of your cards, coins and cash.
The coin pocket is specially designed so it does not require a zipper.
(I know many of you love that idea - no zipper)

I LOVE Lazy Girl Designs patterns.
The Lazy Girl Designs patterns are so quick and easy to make, they truly are designed for the lazy girl. The Wonder Wallet can be made completely with just one fat quarter. The pattern pieces are included but, Joan Hawley, the designer of Lazy Girl Designs has also included directions for rotary cutting and cutting from a 1/4 yard strip.
Can she make it any easier?

~ Today's giveaway ~
MAGGIE by Lazy Girl Designs

Since I own this adorable MAGGIE pattern myself, I can tell you first hand how quick and easy
 it is to make.
In just a matter of minutes you can whip together this little bag.
Really...
The camera bag below took me less than 30 minutes from start to finish.
To make the larger bag all you need is one 10" square of  batting and two 10" squares of fabric; one fabric square for the outside and one for your lining.
Who doesn't have a couple 10" squares in their scrap bag?

Lazy Girl Designs are truly for - the lazy girl.
The instructions so are unique and easy to follow.

The MAGGIE comes in two sizes.
 The larger MAGGIE measures 4 1/2" x 5" and the smaller measures 3 1/4" x 4".

The smaller MAGGIE is perfect for "the little things".

You can make two of the smaller MAGGIE'S using the same amount of fabric as the larger one.
Make one for yourself and one for a friend!

I can't even tell you how much fun the MAGGIE is to make.
Do you need a last minute gift for someone?
I can come up hundreds of uses for both sizes and they're just so darn cute!

EVERYTHING is included with this pattern- except the calories!
Not only do you get the pattern for this 4 1/4" x 3" tall Baby Cake pincushion; the instructions for the rose and candle are included too.

Simple tissue box covers

After three weeks of runny noses, sore throats, and coughs we are all finally on our way to recovery.
Which brings me to these...

Our tissue boxes.

I LOVE the simple pattern for these tissue boxes.
I made these a few years ago from instructions out of either an old
Sew Simple or Sew News magazine.
I have searched through every sewing magazine I own and have not been able to find this pattern.
I think I may have loaned the magazine to someone and it was never returned to me.
If any of you know which magazine and what month this pattern came from, please let me know.
It may be possible for me to purchase an old copy from their website.
Thanks guys for your help.
Have a great day!

Want more time to sew?

Stock your freezer.
I spent about 4 hours Sunday preparing freezer meals.
I started with a pot of spaghetti sauce and let it cook while I prepared my other meals.
I made enough sauce for three separate dishes - spaghetti, lasagna and my go to meal, ziti.
Mmmmmm....

Next, I got out my pressure cooker and filled it with boneless chicken breasts.
Twenty-five minutes later my chicken was done.
I shredded the chicken and divided it into 4 packages (3 cups each) for the freezer to make chicken and yellow rice, chicken and pasta, chicken salad etc.
I set aside the rest to make the filling for two chicken pot pies.

I usually put all the filling into the uncooked pie crust and freeze until I am ready to bake.
This time I decided to try something different.
I froze the filling and pie crust separately.
It actually takes up less room in the freezer too.

When I'm ready for chicken pot pie it will only take me a couple minutes to roll out the pie crust, put it in a casserole dish, dump the filling in and top it with another crust.
I made enough homemade pie crust for 2 pot pies and a couple quiches.

Up next was the ground beef.
I package my ground beef in one pound packages and roll them out flat.
Rolling them flat makes it quick to thaw and easy to store in a small freezer.

What I didn't freeze into one pound packages, I made into meat loaf.
I like making little individual loaves - one for each of us.

I made enough for 3 separate meals for my family, but if someone stops by for dinner, I just take out an extra little loaf.

Again, these thaw quicker and it only takes a minute to mix together the yummy topping for these babies and pop them in the oven.

I like to plan my meals a month ahead. You can read about that here.
Planning ahead, I not only know I have all the ingredients I need, but I know every morning what I need to take out of the freezer or prepare in the Crockpot for dinner that evening.
I hate trying to figure out what's for dinner at 4pm every day.

I didn't have time Sunday, but I usually put together a few casseroles and freeze them uncooked so I can literally just thaw them and pop them in the oven - no prep time at all.

See how stocking the freezer can give you more time to sew?

No unnecessary trips to the grocery store and it only takes 5 minutes to prep for dinner each night.

Now go sew while dinner is cooking!

Fitting Finesse

I know soon, this nasty, lingering, keep me up all night, cough will go away and I will feel
more like sewing.

Meanwhile, I am entertaining myself reading through my many sewing books.
I LOVE books on sewing and have - more than I care to admit.

When my mother passed away, I inherited her collection also.
One of those books was Fitting Finesse by Nancy Zieman.

I love Nancy Zieman.
I have purchased many of her books and watch her show on a regular basis.
Nancy explains this book as her painless approach to fitting.
As I read through the pages I became more and more interested in this approach.
She calls it Pivot and Slide.

Nancy says the key to a great fit is choosing the right pattern, taking your accurate measurements and using this Pivot and Slide method.
No cutting, slashing, pinching or tucking - just this easy Pivot and Slide technique.

Looks pretty easy.
I was intrigued, so I started reading the reviews on this book; some good, some not so good.

Since I totally trust the opinion of my readers I though I would ask...

Have any of you tried this technique, if so, whadya think?

Is it as easy as it looks?

Back in my day we had fads that made sense.
I get things like smiley faces, peace signs, flower power, mood rings, hippie beads, bell bottoms, peasant blouses, lava lamps, troll dolls, black light posters, etc.

Now we have the - mustache craze???
I have noticed several embroidery sites selling mustache designs.
