No sewing today...

I have a ton of work to do.
Can you tell?

I am the corresponding secretary for the parents group at my daughter's school.
I am also in charge of a spring fundraiser in May and a membership drive in August.
I send out over 500 letters each year to our members. We have very generous members; most not only pay the $10 membership fee, but donate much more.
Any whooo....
I will be logging, banking, writing thank you letters, licking envelopes and making a trip to the post office today.
Gotta get my running shoes on...

Trick or Treat !

This was a very quick project I made for Oakleigh's first Halloween.
I say "very quick" because if you notice, I just serged the handle and
around the top of the bag.
The bag is made from trigger - a heavier cotton fabric similar in weight to
cotton duck or canvas.

Don't you just love that little candy corn fabric?

USPS delivery

After seeing all the beautiful cookies Terri decorates at Fresh Cut Flours, I am determined to learn the art of cookie decorating.
As you can see here, I'm usually pretty messy with icing bags.
With a tip from Terri, I ordered these really cool 8-ounce squeeze bottles with couples from Karen's Cookies.
I can't wait to try them.

Now, if I can just find the time to actually BAKE the cookies...

While I am busy sewing baby boy things...

I thought I would share something girly I made in the past for
 Miss Oakleigh.

I love this little bib.
I purchased the sewing pattern from DigiStitches; it's called The Binkie Bib.

Below is a purchased hanger I "slipcovered" it to match the bib.

With all the really cute novelty fabrics out now, wouldn't this bib be easy to coordinate with any outfit ?

I am expecting a new grandbaby...

Take a guess....
a boy or girl ?

You guessed right !
Oakleigh is waiting on her new little brother; due in November.
I am really busy right now trying to finish up gifts in time for
 the baby shower October 2nd.
Because his mom reads this blog, I will be posting pictures
after the shower.
See ya soon.

A little wager

My best bud (in the whole world) lives in Colorado.
It's not often the Denver Broncos play the Tampa Bay Bucs, so we made a little wager...
If you follow football at all, I know some of you are wondering WHY on earth would she wager ANYTHNG on the Tampa Bay Bucs. I wondered myself....
We wagered a dozen cookies - winners choice.
Take a guess who lost ???
If you read my blog at all, you already know my sewing skills are a tiny bit better than my baking skills.
I knew she wouldn't "let me slide" so, I got to work right away making a dozen cookies to pay off my bet.

Maybe they were not quite the cookies she had in mind, but...
just think of all the calories I saved her!
After all, she is my best bud.
Love ya, Deb.

Hello... out there....can I get a few volunteers?

Before you say yes, I need to warn you...
I have no dishwasher.

Hummmm.... didn't think so.

Please tell me I am not the ONLY ONE who makes such a mess frosting cupcakes?
I LOVE buttercream icing but - it's just so darn messy to make and work with.

I found these cute little Mary Engelbreit napkins and thought "Now, wouldn't it be cute to make cupcakes to match".

They aren't perfect...

but...

they sure were tasty!

Cutting board to chalkboard

Does "this little piggy" look familiar?

rescued him from a local thrift store for $.80.

I say rescued because in his previous life he was being used
as a chopping block cutting board.
I brought him home, cleaned him up and painted him with a little chalkboard paint.

Fabric flower

With help from the sweet and generous Kara I was able to make this cute little fabric flower.

It's not perfect, but I'm happy with it.
I am still deciding what I want to do with it.
Maybe a pin, hair clip, accessory on a tote, shirt or pillow?
Oh, decisions, decisions....

Polly's "boo" jeans

I have noticed many of you sharing some really cute
 and creative Halloween projects lately.
Made me want to join in.....

For safety reasons, the school my daughter attends does not allow Halloween costumes to be worn. They are allowed to dress in festive colors, wear hats, and paint their faces but no actual costumes.

Here is what I came up with for Miss Polly to wear last year.
I just added a little homemade bias tape (left from another project), ric rac, and embroidery to a tee shirt and an old pair of jeans.

Now...
I just have to come up with something new for this Halloween.

Instead of charms for your drinks....

Why not make custom coasters?

Below are three I made for Oakleigh, Danise and Dwight last year for Christmas.

They start like this....

And, end up like this.....

Wrapped and ready to go...

Should they get dirty, they are completely washable...

Did you know?

In U.S. Sports, Labor Day marks the beginning of the NFL and
college football seasons.

Below is Mr Fisherman "sporting" his Florida Gator do rag I made for him
 last year.
